The Pre-School at Rathdown offers a sessional ECCE service along with a full-time and part-time day care service for children aged 2 years and 8 months to 5 years and 6 months. With camps during holiday periods with the exception of Christmas, we are open 50 weeks of the year. Early drop off commences at 8am and our latest collection is 6.30pm. A hot lunch and hot evening tea are available. We follow a play-based curriculum guided by Aistear, the national curriculum framework. The main Aistear themes - well-being, identity and belonging, communication and exploring and thinking - are incorporated in everything we do. We provide a wide range of extra curricular activities. In addition, a PE class and a music class with our Junior School PE and choir teachers are included each week. A variety of special events such as dress up days etc happen throughout the year. Take a look at our pods below to sample a flavour of our Pre-School.
Online Pre-School, Jan-March 21
This week our online Pre-School classes focused on the Weather, Seasons and the Water Cycle. We tried out dressing up for different types of weather. In Science, we made a water-cycle bag, a tornado in a jar and shaving foam rain clouds! In art, we made rainy day pictures using bubble wrap. What a way to welcome in Spring!
This week in online Pre-School we learned all about Dinosaurs. We also started to learn the names of 2D shapes. We made moon sand and buried our dinosaurs in it. On Friday, we baked fossil cookies - delicious!
Chinese Dragon Dance
This week in online Pre-School, we looked at animals that live in cold places. We used an oil experiment to investigate the role of blubber in arctic animals such as polar bears. In art, we made potato stamp penguins!
In our first week of online school we had Christmas show and tell and we read the Gruffalo's Child. We had a look at the science behind Winter and we made snow from baking soda and hair conditioner! The children had great fun making snowmen and some children sent in photos of real snowmen they made the week before....can you spot the real ones??? Our Friday art involved making winter collages from anything we could find in our houses. Well done everyone!
