Remembrance page

We remember with great affection and admiration Sinéad Jones & Laura Dolan.

Sinead Ahern

Sinéad Jones (née Aherne), who passed away in July 2021 after a brave battle with cervical cancer, was a devoted and loving mother to her ten-month-old daughter Poppy, and a cherished wife to Nick.
Sinéad was a dedicated, caring and inspiring member of staff whose enthusiasm and kindness enriched every aspect of school life. She brought life to our school's 'sport for all’ philosophy, ensuring that every child had the opportunity to participate, to belong and to thrive. She always saw the best in every child and took joy in helping each child grow in confidence and encouraged the enjoyment of sport.
Sinéad’s husband Nick remains a much-valued friend and supporter of the school and their daughter Poppy (now aged five) is a happy and lively member of our KG2 class.
Sinéad will always be remembered for her warmth and dedication. She made such a positive contribution to our community and to so many children and colleagues.

Laura Dolan

Laura Dolan, who passed away in July 2021 at the age of 27 following her second liver transplant (the first at age 21), was a remarkable young woman.
Laura was a proud Rathdown girl from ages 3 to 18, and her closest friends were ex-Rathdown girls. Laura was intrepid and fearless, always maintained a positive outlook, and embraced every opportunity life offered. She enjoyed a successful and fulfilling teaching experience in Australia before returning to Ireland to join one of the country’s leading new schools where she was widely respected as a bright, passionate and energetic young teacher.
Laura was the only child of Virginia and Jim Dolan; Virginia dedicated over 40 years to teaching at Rathdown Junior School and Jim was a steadfast supporter of the school.
