"I work in the pharmaceutical sector. I’m a biochemist with an MBA so have a good view of how industry puts a value of science. I work in pharmaceutical industry in drug development bringing new and novel drugs through the clinical trial process, manufacturing validation and my ultimate job is to package and present these data to the European Medicines Agency and the US FDA to negotiate an approval to allow the product to be available to patients."
Olive Heffernan
Olive Heffernan is an award-winning science journalist. Her work has been published in Nature, WIRED, National Geographic, Guardian, Scientific American and BBC Wildlife, among other outlets. Now freelance, Olive spent a number of years with Nature covering climate change, including as first chief editor of the research journal Nature Climate Change. In 2019, she joined the faculty of Johns Hopkins University as an adjunct lecturer, and received a Giles St Aubyn Award for non-fiction from the UK Royal Society of Literature. Her first book, THE HIGH SEAS: Ambition, Power and Greed on the Unclaimed Ocean was published in May 2024 in North America and the UK/Commonwealth. Olive is currently funded by the Pulitzer Centre to report on ocean conservation in Europe. She lives by the sea in Ireland.
